Indulgently soft, buttery sugar cookies

Cookies are my most favorite treat. I love them all. But there are two that I seem to gravitate more toward. Chocolate chip cookies, with their crisp outside and gooey inside, when done right, are my absolute favorite. I especially love that they only take a few minutes to whip together. Almost instant gratification.

My other favorite cookie is a soft, buttery sugar cookie with a thick layer of light, fluffy butter cream frosting. Although they are much more labor intensive, the reward is so satisfying.

Today I am sharing my favorite sugar cookie recipe. This tried and true beauty has been in the family for years, and although I don't get to make them very often, they're always a hit when I do.

To make this incredible cookie, you will need:
1 c. butter (two sticks)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 TB. Vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
5 1/2 c. all purpose flour

Cream together butter and sugar. While still beating, slowly add oil, then powdered sugar. In a separate bowl, mix together dry ingredients and sift in as mixer is going. Drop on cookie sheet and gently press with a cold glass cup sprayed with cooking spray and sugared. Bake 350 for 8-10 minutes. Chill in the fridge.

For the fluffy butter cream, you will need:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 cup sour cream
about 1 lb. powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
about 1/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
pink or red food coloring

Cream butter and a cup of powdered sugar. Beat in sour cream until smooth. Add another cup of powdered sugar. beat. Add milk. Alternate between the two until firm, but spreadable. Add coloring. Frost onto cookies.
